On July 26th, International Forum on Teacher Exchange and Cooperation, hosted by Guizhou Normal University(GZNU), along with the opening ceremony for the Science Teacher Training Program for ASEAN Countries, was held at the permanent venue of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week. This forum was organized by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education and supported by the ASEAN-China Centre(ACC) and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO).
Over 100 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Education of China, Ministries of Education of ASEAN countries, relevant universities, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, Guizhou Provincial municipal and prefectural education bureaus and trainee teachers, gathered to discuss international exchange and cooperation on education, aiming to jointly enhance educators’ capabilities.
Conference Venue
Han Jinhong, Deputy Director-General of the Teacher Work Department of the Ministry of Education of China, shared China’s experiences and practices in building a high-caliber teaching workforce in the new era. She proposed strengthening international exchange and cooperation on education with ASEAN countries to jointly write a new chapter of open, collaborative, and sustainable global educator development, making new contributions to building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
Suthep, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education of Thailand, acknowledged the achievements of this event in jointly developing a training curriculum system, utilizing technology to build lifelong learning platforms, and establishing regional teaching and research exchange networks. He stated that educational cooperation between ASEAN and China has driven teaching innovation and development, providing crucial support for jointly building a sustainable and stable future.
Liu Xiao, Deputy Director of the Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ACC, stated that this event provided a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and regional cooperation. She expressed hope to elevate ASEAN-China educational cooperation to a broader and deeper level through the ACC.
Chen Yunkun, Director of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, announced the opening of the 2025 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week-Science Teacher Training Program for ASEAN Countries. He pointed out that deepening international exchange and cooperation on education and jointly enhancing educators’ capabilities represent both a strategic consensus and a practical action to jointly advance the qualitative upgrading of regional education and tackle future challenges together.
Signing Ceremony
During the Keynote Speeches session, representatives from various sectors both at home and abroad focused on international exchanges and cooperation among education as well as educator development, in-depth elaborating on their own thoughts and insights.
Peng Shuangjie, President of Central China Normal University(CCNU), introduced that in advancing the internationalization of teacher education, CCNU strengthens teaching and teachers by innovating the training model for normal university students and deepening the use of digitalization to empower teachers’ overseas study. He also called for initiatives such as strengthening the construction of a joint teacher training system, building an educational research community, and broadening scenarios for teacher exchange to promote international exchange among university teachers between China and ASEAN countries.
Zhang Shaodong, President of GZNU, noted that adhering to the philosophy of “rooted in ASEAN, radiating to neighboring regions, and facing the world”, GZNU has established partnerships with over 30 universities and institutions in 7 ASEAN countries, achieving a series of significant results in promoting educational exchange and cooperation between China and ASEAN. In 2025, GZNU was approved to establish the China-ASEAN Language and Culture Research Center, which will engage in in-depth cooperation with ASEAN universities in language and culture, including academic exchanges and joint postgraduate training.
Ren Jie, President of Guiyang Preschool Education College(GYPEC), shared the GYPEC’s experiences in international teacher exchange, including completing the training and development of “China Storytellers” and innovative international teacher teams through the “Five Major Plans”; deepening the China-Cambodia Preschool Teacher Training Center Project and enhancing “Chinese Language & Skills” development; and co-establishing the Zhucheng Zhiyuan Class at the Hangthao Business Administration College of Laos.
Roundtable Discussion
During the Roundtable Discussion session, Chinese and foreign experts and scholars exchanged views and discussed the theme “Enhancing Global Exchange and Cooperation, Empowering Teacher and Education Development”. They focused on sharing national experiences and the practical pathways for multinational cooperation initiatives, providing “theoretical support & case studies” for teachers’ international exchange and capacity enhancement.
Furthermore, during the forum, four cooperation agreements were signed, Cooperation Agreement between Guizhou Normal University and SEAMEO QlTEP in Science, Cooperation Agreement for 2025-2028 between Guizhou Vocational College of Economics and Business and BKPBM/ Board of Mandarin Education Coordination Jakarta, Indonesia, Framework Agreement for Teacher Training Cooperation between Guiyang Preschool Education College and the Preschool Teacher Training Center of Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and Cooperation Agreement for 2025 between Guizhou Teacher Development Center and SEAMEO QlTEP in Science.
