Guizhou Normal University (GZNU), founded in 1941, with the former name of “National Guiyang Teacher’s College”, was one of the eight national teachers’ colleges in China at that time. In October 1950, it was renamed as “Guiyang Teachers’ College”. It was formally named “Guizhou Normal University” in 1985 and honored as one of the provincial key university jointly built by Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Guizhou Province in 1996. In 2017 it was selected as “The First Batch of National Demonstration Universities for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform”.
With Huaxi Campus as its main campus, GZNU comprises 25 schools and a School of Further Education. It has more than 41, 000 full-time students and a faculty team of 2, 576 members in total, including 337 professors and 651 associate professors. More than 300 talent and honorary titles at national or provincial level have been given to the faculty achieving great progress.GZNU has a full range of disciplines, covering 11 disciplines such as philosophy, literature and education.The University has developed 6 doctor’s programs in first-level disciplines, 24 master’s programs in first-level disciplines and 17 professional ones, and 85 bachelor’s programs.
Guizhou Normal University remains committed to broadening its education through global cooperation. Presently, it has established friendly partnerships and conducted programs with universities and institutions in the United States, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia and other countries, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions.GZNU cooperates with the Scottish Qualification Management Committee to award the UK Diploma in Higher Education program (SQA-AD), with Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) tooffer the undergraduate international general education course (IGEC), withthe National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) of India to developBachelor program of Data science and Big Data Technology (characteristic program),and with University of CentralOklahoma on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools program.
Until now, more than 300, 000 students graduated from GZNU, and GZNU is developing into a normal university with distinctive characteristics of teacher education and coordinated development of multi-disciplines, which has made a positive contribution to the economic and social development in Guizhou province.
