An international symposium themed " Across Time and Space: The Silk Road and the Silk City " opened at William Paterson University in New Jersey, the U.S. on October 26, 2022.
The symposium was held by William Paterson University(WPU) and the municipal government of Paterson, host by Center for Chinese Art, WPU, co-organized with the WPU Galleries and the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and co-sponsored by China International Cultural Association, Guizhou International Cultural Association and some universities in China
Gathering important figures from the above organizers, the symposium aims to look into the communication and development between China and America in the fields of culture, education, art, industry and others in the context of the Silk Road.
Huang Ping, Chinese consul general in New York , said that the Silk Road of the new era has built up so many connections in the field of culture , art , economy and trade between China and the U. S . and he hopes the heritage and spirit of the Silk Road will be carried forward for the well- being of the two peoples and the common prosperity of the whole world.
Zeng Li, vice president of Guizhou Normal University, said in her speech: “since 2013, China put forward a cooperative initiative to jointly build the "New Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road". Over the past 9 years, various provinces and cities in China have actively participated in the joint construction and development of the economic partnership with countries along the route, and joined hands to build a community of economic integration and cultural tolerance.”
It is reported, the current exhibits in galleries of William Paterson University include " A Durable Thread : The Silk Road from China to America " and “Textile Arts from Guizhou , China ", having attracted visitors from both online and offline.
